Serve in the Community

Here are a few ways we can work together to make a difference in our community showing God's love to hurting people in our own backyard.

WARMING CENTER

When weather is predicted to be dangerously cold, Calvary Church may be activated as a warming center for our homeless community. 

For 2024, Calvary will be activated for the following weeks (if needed): 
  • January 21-27
  • February 18-24
  • March 10-17

When this happens, volunteers are needed for a variety of areas.

Set Up: 5:30-8 pm (1-2 people) Sets up the EWR area by unloading items form the EWR trailer and setting up cots, bedding, and administrative items.

Greeter: 8:30-11:15 pm (1 person) Welcomes guests and directs them to Intake for registration.  
Intake: 8:30-11:15 pm (2 needed) Meets with guests ,reviews rules of the Warming Center and completes the registration process.
Overnight: 10:00 pm - 2:00 am MOST NEEDED (3 needed (mix of men/women) Maintain a quiet environment and address any issues if any arise.
Overnight: 2:00 am - 7:00 am MOST NEEDED (3 needed (mix of men/women) Maintain a quiet environment and address any issues if any arise.
Breakfast Team: 5:45 - 7:15 am Provides breakfast for our guests to enjoy upon waking.
Site Cleaner: 6:15 - 7:15 am Cleans up after our guests have left, resetting the space for the next night.
Bedding Laundry: 7:15 am Takes all used bedding to the laundromat to wash/dry/return to Calvary for the next activation.
Tear Down: 7:30 - 9:00 am Removes all EWR materials and packs them back into the EWR trailer in preparation for the next activation.

Attending one Emergency Weather Response training session is required: Training session December 14 7-8:30 pm St.John UCC 405 S 5th St, St. Charles, MO 63301 (Not required if class has been taken in previous years)


Oil Change Volunteers

Twice each year we offer free oil changes to single moms and low-income families. Don’t know anything about cars? No problem! Consider helping greet our guests, serving meals to our volunteers, or organizing supplies. CLICK HERE TO SERVE

Adopt-a-School

Teams of helpers “adopt” a local school and serve the faculty, perhaps by cleaning the teacher’s lounge once a month, appreciating teachers with meals during conferences, or surprising the staff with treats from time to time. CLICK HERE TO SERVE

HAMMER HEADS

Hammer Heads is a home repair ministry serving single moms, widows, elderly, spouses of deployed military members and handicapped who own homes and need minor home repairs. CLICK HERE TO SERVE

Weekend Hunger

Oftentimes children who receive free lunches at school go hungry on the weekend. Weekend Hunger provides backpacks of food for children to take home at the end of the school week. CLICK HERE TO SERVE

Food Pantry

Each week, Calvary’s Food Pantry provides food for about 40 families from the community. CLICK HERE TO SERVE in this ministry. We also provide food to other needs in and around our area. LEARN MORE on how you can help by donating food for these people and families.

Moving Ministry

Help homeless and underprivileged families with relocating. CLICK HERE TO SERVE

NEIGHBOR HELPING NEIGHBOR

Calvary provides leadership to this coalition which is making a positive impact in neighborhoods throughout St. Charles County by partnering with local governments, aid agencies, churches, and school districts to assess the needs of under-resourced people and then actively engaging them in care to transform their lives.  CLICK HERE TO SERVE

Christmas Store Volunteers 

The Christmas Store impacts many lives by giving underprivileged parents in our community the opportunity to shop for gifts at much-reduced prices. While at the Christmas Store, parents are blessed with caring, attentive, and engaged servants of the Lord. Volunteers are needed to help parents shop, wrap gifts, serve breakfast, and so much more!  CLICK HERE TO SERVE
